Peter Ebimobiwei 65'
Gbenga Adeshina rescued his team on the dot of fulltime to earn his side a one-all draw with visiting table-toppers Bayelsa United after Striker Peter Ebimobiwei had given his side the lead in the sixty-fifth minute at the prestigious Onikan Stadium during the last Matchday of the season in the National League.
Both sides had the opportunity to take the lead in the first half but were wasteful in front of goal with Dennis Lawrence, Daniel Jackson and Taofeek Saka the guilty party for C.O.D United while Peter Ebimobiwei and Merenini Junior should have done better when in fantastic positions as the first forty-five minutes of proceedings ended in a stalemate.
Five minutes after restart the home side got a fantastic opportunity after Taofeek Saka's persistence won C.O.D United a Penalty which was saved in two attempts by Goalkeeper Adeyi Oguntoye as a result of the Centre Referee's order for Shakiru Omobolaji to retake the spot-kick. Adeyi Oguntoye continued to stand in between C.O.D United and a lifeline back into the game in the process even after his team had taken the lead through Peter Ebimobiwei denying the trio of Segun Adeniyi, Daniel Jackson and Taofeek Saka on numerous occasions.
Eventual Goalscorer Gbenga Adeshina replaced Captain Chinedu Obinor with ten minutes remaining and it took him just that to make an effective and lasting impact for his team. The win ensured C.O.D United finished above the relegation in sixth place on twenty-one points while Bayelsa United finally secured the Nigeria Premier League promotion that had been in the offing for a while.
